Sunday, April 30, 13h: Movie-Screening: Women in Resistance in Greece – Documentaries by Alinda Dimitriou

We show three documentaries by the director Alinda Dimitriou, dealing with political activism and resistance of women in contemporay Greece. The first movie „Birds in the mire“ (2008, 104mins) portrays women who where active in the resistance movement against the Nazi-occupation of Greece from 1941-1944. The second movie „Among the Rocks (2009, 98mins) deals with the civil war (1946-1949) and tells the stories of women who resisted, were persecuted and forced to flee the country. Finally we will show the movie „The Girls in the Rain“ (2011, 120mins) which looks at the period of the military dictatorship in Greece (1967-1974). It shows women who were politically active already before and others who were politicized during this time.
