Lesvos – an external frontier of the EUropeans border regimes and the work of No Border Kitchen Lesvos VERSCHOBEN
Die Veranstaltung wird verschoben! ein neuer Termin steht noch nicht fest.
When in march 2016 the EU – Turkey deal was enacted, the aegean island Lesvos became one of the main battlefields for European countries for their inhuman borderprotection politics.
Since that, thousands of people have been and are still trapped on the island. The hotspot Camp Moria is highly overcrowded with unacceptable conditions, be it sanitary or other conditions. E.g. people are forced to queue every day for hours for a little bit of substandard food. The capacity of the Camp is highly exceeded, so that there are not enough sleeping places for everyone.
Additionally there is a daily routine of racist arrest, detentions and deportations.
The mental health of almost all of the people stuck on the island is highly at risk; Selfharming behaviour, addictions and suicide are the aftermath.
Since 2015 No Border Kitchen Lesvos is fighting for autonomy, freedom of movement and human dignity on the island (and elsewhere). Its an autonomous, non-hierachical and self-organized group of refugees and other activists.
This talk will give an overview about the situation on the island Lesvos and the work of No Border Kitchen Lesvos.
Note: this talk will be held in English so that also non-german speakers can participate
