Die Privatisierung städtischen Wohnungseigentums schreitet in Warschau rapide voran, die Zahl der Zwangsräumungen ist extrem hoch. Ein besonderes Problem sind wilde, teils gewalttätige Reprivatisierungen und explodierende Heizkosten für Mieterinnen in kommunalen Wohnungen, die oftmals die Miete übersteigen. Die Gründerin der *Warsaw Tenants’ Association (WSL), Jolanta Brzeska, wurde 2011 entführt und ermordet, der Fall ist juristisch nach wie vor nicht aufgearbeitet. Die Warsaw Tenants’ Association (WSL) organisiert Widerstand und Vernetzung von Mieterinnen. Sie versteht sich nicht als NGO, sondern unterstützt Mieterinnen bei der Selbstorganisation und Selbstermächtigung.

The Warsaw Tenants Association (WSL) is a tenant-run union founded in 2007 in order to defend the interests of public housing tenants. Initially, WSL organized against mass rent increases and evictions caused by (re)privatisation. Last winter, WSL launched a campaign against the high costs of heating in the city’s South Praga district. In March 2011, Jola Brzeska, a founding member of WSL and one of its leaders was kidnapped from her house and murdered. Her case remains unsolved.
