Am Programm? „The Watermelon Woman“, eine romantische Dramödie über Cheryl, eine Videothekenangestellte, die beschließt, einen Dokumentarfilm über eine schwarze “Mammy”-Darstellerin aus einem alten Hollywood-Film zu drehen, in dem sie nur als “The Watermelon Woman” zu sehen ist. Cheryl macht sich auf die Suche nach der Schauspielerin, während sie gleichzeitig eine neue Beziehung zu Diana, einer Kundin der Videothek, aufbaut. The Watermelon Woman war der erste Spielfilm, bei dem eine schwarze Lesbe Regie führte, und gilt als Meilenstein der neuen Queer-Cinema-Bewegung.

On the program? “The Watermelon Woman”, a romantic dramedy about Cheryl, a video store clerk who decides to make a documentary about a black “mammy” actress from an old Hollywood movie in which she is only seen as “The Watermelon Woman”. Cheryl sets out to find the actress, while at the same time forging a new relationship with Diana, a customer at the video store. The Watermelon Woman was the first feature film directed by a black lesbian and is considered a milestone in the new queer cinema movement.
