This Lecture Workshop examines the gaze as a visual device. Photography has often been an instrument of violence within the hegemonic visual regime. Who has the right to see? Who is represented, and how? In what ways can photography and the gaze be agents of political imagination? Drawing from historical enactments of representation such as Tableau Vivant, participants learn the basics of photography and its narrative potential through group exercises. Please bring an object or garment that you identify with and would like to use to explore your self-representation. No photographic skills required.
