“Girl Power” ist ein Dokumentarfilm, der Graffiti-Writerinnen aus fünfzehn Städten vorstellt - von Prag über Moskau, Kapstadt, Sydney, Biel, Madrid, Berlin, Toulouse und Barcelona bis nach New York. Die Graffiti Community wird überwiegend als “man’s world” wahrgenommen und Männer sind oft der Meinung, dass Graffiti - vor allem die illegale Art - nichts für Mädchen ist. Und doch haben sich sprühende Flinta* in den letzten Jahren zunehmend emanzipiert; es gibt weibliche Graffiti-Shows, Magazine und Websites. “Girl Power” fängt die Geschichten von Writerinnen in der männlichen Graffiti-Welt ein.
“Girl Power” ist jedoch mehr als nur ein Blick in den Graffiti-Mikrokosmos; er erzählt die bewegende Geschichte der tschechischen Writerin Sany, die 2009 beschloss, die weibliche Emanzipation im Graffiti auf Film festzuhalten und anderen Mädchen und Frauen die Möglichkeit zu geben, sich auszudrücken.
Es dauerte 7 Jahre, um den Dokumentarfilm fertigzustellen. Wir verfolgen ihr Leben, ihre Kunst, ihre Motivation und die Entwicklung ihrer Werte im Laufe der Jahre. Dabei lernen wir auch Sanys Familie kennen, die von ihrem „zweitem Leben“ nichts weiß.
Sany opfert viel für den Film, aber selbst als sie am Ende ihrer Kräfte weigert sie sich, ihren Traum aufzugeben - den allerersten Film über Frauen in der Graffiti-Branche zu drehen.
🚨Kleiner Teaser: Die Regisseurin Sany wird die Sisterhood Ausstellung im Laufe der Woche besuchen - damit wird es auch die Möglichkeit geben, Fragen, die beim Filmschauen aufkommen, ein paar Tage später zu stellen.

The Sisterhood exhibition will open on March 17 - it can be visited on this day between 4 and 8 pm. Afterward, we invite you to hang out and connect at the following screening of the film “Girl Power”.
“Girl Power” is a documentary that presents female graffiti writers from fifteen cities – from Prague to Moscow, Cape Town, Sydney, Biel, Madrid, Berlin, Toulouse, Barcelona and all the way to New York. The graffiti community is predominantly a man’s world, and men often share the view that graffiti – namely the illegal kind – is not for girls. And yet women have become increasingly more emancipated in recent years; there are female graffiti shows, magazines and websites. “Girl Power” captures the stories of women who have succeeded in the male graffiti world.
However, “Girl Power” is more than just a look into the graffiti microcosm; it tells the moving story of Czech writer Sany, who decided in 2009 to capture female emancipation in graffiti on film and to give other girls and women the possibility to express themselves. It took her 7 long years to complete the documentary. We follow her life with graffiti, her motivation and values that keep changing as the years go by. We will also meet her family, who is absolutely unaware of Sany’s “second life”. Sany sacrifices a lot for the film, but even when she’s at the end of her tether, she refuses to give up on her dream – to make the very first movie depicting females in graffiti.
🚨A little teaser: The director Sany will be visiting the Sisterhood exhibition during the week - so there will also be the opportunity to ask her questions coming up while watching the film a few days later.
