Demo gegen 1 Jahr GEAS Reform

Vor Kurzem hat die österreichische Regierung den Familiennachzug für Geflüchtete mit Verweis auf einen angeblichen „Notstand“ im Bildungsbereich gestoppt – ein klarer Verstoß gegen EU-Recht. Doch das ist nur ein Vorgeschmack auf das, was durch die Reform des Gemeinsamen Europäischen Asylsystems (GEAS) droht: Abschottung der EU-Außengrenzen, Entrechtung von Schutzsuchenden und Einschränkung der Bewegungsfreiheit.

Am 10. April 2024 hat das EU-Parlament die GEAS-Reform beschlossen. Sie erlaubt u.a. die systematische Inhaftierung von Geflüchteten – auch von Kindern –, Abschiebungen in unsichere Drittstaaten, die Umgehung des Asylrechts bei „Notlagen“ und die Kriminalisierung von Solidarität. Die Umsetzung passiert jetzt – wie der aktuelle Stopp des Familiennachzugs zeigt. Geflüchtete werden so zu Sündenböcken für Sozialabbau und Austeritätspolitik gemacht. Die Lage an den EU-Grenzen ist schon jetzt katastrophal: Geflüchtete sterben auf gefährlichen Routen, werden in Lager gesperrt, gefoltert und misshandelt – oft mit Unterstützung der EU. Allein 2024 sind über 10.000 Menschen auf der Flucht gestorben – trauriger Rekord. Mit der GEAS-Reform wird diese Gewalt weiter verschärft – fernab der öffentlichen Aufmerksamkeit.

Während rechte Parteien von „Remigration“ träumen, verlagert die EU die Verantwortung an die Ränder Europas – auf Kosten der Menschenrechte. Zeigen wir gemeinsam, dass wir das nicht hinnehmen! Gegen die GEAS-Reform, gegen rechte und rassistische Politik – für Bewegungsfreiheit und Menschenrechte! Kein Mensch ist illegal!

Recently, the Austrian government stopped family reunification for refugees, citing an alleged “emergency” in the education sector – a clear violation of EU law. But this is only a preview of what’s to come with the reform of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS): the militarisation of EU external borders, the stripping of rights from people seeking protection, and the restriction of freedom of movement.

On April 10, 2024, the EU Parliament passed the CEAS reform. It allows, among other things, the systematic detention of refugees, including children, deportations to unsafe third countries, the bypassing of asylum rights in cases of “emergencies”, and the criminalization of solidarity. Implementation is already underway – as shown by the current halt on family reunification. Refugees are being made scapegoats for cuts to social services and austerity policies.

The situation at the EU’s borders is already catastrophic: people die on dangerous routes, are locked up in camps, tortured, and mistreated – often with EU support. In 2024 alone, over 10,000 people have died while fleeing – a tragic record. The CEAS reform will only escalate this violence – far from the public eye.

While right-wing parties dream of “remigration”, the EU shifts responsibility to the fringes of Europe – at the expense of human rights.

Let’s show that we won’t accept this! Against the CEAS reform, against racist and right-wing politics – for freedom of movement and human rights! No one is illegal.
