Decolonizing Therapy Together is a space to explore the history and significance of decolonizing therapy, while also embodying its principles in practice — together. This is not about individual perfection, but about creating space for mistakes, non-binariness, failure, and collective learning. It’s an invitation to unlearn, reimagine, and build community through the messiness and beauty of the process. The legacy of colonization deeply impacts mental health frameworks, often failing to acknowledge the ongoing traumas of systemic racism, genocide, and cultural oppression. Many traditional therapeutic models, rooted in Eurocentric perspectives, may not fully address the realities of those for whom there is no “post” to their trauma. The DSM’s history of pathologizing resistance—such as labeling enslaved Africans with “drapetomania” or Indigenous children rejecting boarding schools as mentally ill—raises questions about the trustworthiness of psychiatric classifications. This online workshop will critically examine psychiatric classifications and foster a space that embraces collective resistance as part of healing practices.

This workshop is open to all who are in solidarity with BIPoC
