Free workshop with Tonica Hunter - “We likkle but we tallawah”: Jamaica’s sonic impact
Title:“ We likkle but we tallawah”: Jamaica’s sonic impact.
Paying homage to Jamaica’s global impact beyond “just” music, this listening lecture will demonstrate how sound from this small island has shifted global culture, influenced various art forms, raised awareness and promoted activism across multiple parts of the world.
The irony is: Jamaica’s huge influence also exists alongside a deep and destructive history of extractivism . The lecture is offered as part of a fundraiser to support recovery from Hurricane Melissa and stand in solidarity with communities facing the intersecting crises of ecological transformation, extractivism and unequal development.
About the lecturer: Tonica Hunter (they/she) is British Jamaican, DJ and lecturer living in vienna since 2014.
