Soft hearts, loud solidarity 💞📢

❄️ As winter slowly loosens its grip, we’re coming together once again to turn care into action — with a solidarity flea market & workshop weekend in support of communities affected by Hurricane Melissa, with a special focus on queer people in Jamaica.

➡️ Hurricane Melissa, one of the strongest storms ever recorded in the Atlantic, struck Jamaica in October 2025 and severely impacted Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Beyond the devastating loss of life, the storm has deepened long-standing colonial, economic and infrastructural inequalities. Climate catastrophe once again hits those who contributed the least — and continue to be exploited the most. With this fundraiser, we aim to support immediate aid and self-determined rebuilding for queer people in Jamaica, through a solidarity fund set up by the organisation Queertego, which provides targeted support to queer people affected by the hurricane. 🗣 🏳️‍🌈

Immediate aid for queer people affected by Hurricane Melissa (Queertego solidarity fund)

Hurricane Melissa is considered one of the strongest cyclones ever recorded in the Atlantic and struck the southwestern coast of Jamaica in October 2025. Haiti and the Dominican Republic are also struggling with the effects of the storm. The death toll is estimated to be at least 90 so far. In addition to causing massive destruction, Melissa has further exacerbated existing social, economic, and infrastructural inequalities. In addition to causing massive destruction, Melissa has also exacerbated existing social, economic, and infrastructural inequalities. Hundreds of thousands of people are acutely affected in terms of their basic needs due to destroyed homes, flooding, power and water outages, and damaged hospitals and roads. — with queer communities often facing additional exclusion from official relief structures.

Donations will go to a solidarity fund set up by the organization Queertego, which provides targeted support for queer people affected by Hurricane Melissa, including immediate aid, access to essential resources, and support for self-determined rebuilding.

The storm clearly shows how extreme weather events driven by climate change are impacting regions that have contributed only minimally to its causes while continuing to be exploited. Every euro helps to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and stand in concrete solidarity with queer communities in Jamaica.
