Juli 1936, Barcelona: reaktionäre Kräfte innerhalb der spanischen Armee versuchen in den Morgenstunden die Stadt zu übernehmen - doch ihr Putschversuch scheitert am Wiederstand der organisierten Arbeiter:innen. Innerhalb eines Tages bringen diese sämtliche Kasernen unter ihre Kontrolle und zwingen das Militär in die Flucht. Die Revolution ist in vollem Gange.

Wie konnten die Arbeiter:innen eine derartige Macht aufbauen? Und was führte am Ende dennoch zu ihrer Niederlage? Auch 90 Jahre später beschäftigen uns diese Fragen. Diesen Politwoch gehen wir darauf ein und finden heraus welche Schlüsse sich aus der Geschichte ziehen lassen.

July 1936, Barcelona: in the early hours of the morning, reactionary forces within the Spanish army attempt to take control of the city – but their coup attempt is thwarted by the resistance of organised workers. Within a day, the workers take control of all the barracks and force the military to flee. The revolution is in full swing.

How were the workers able to build up such power? And what ultimately led to their defeat? Even 90 years later, these questions still occupy our minds. This Politwoch, we’ll explore them and find out what lessons can be drawn from history.
